Episode Summary
How might we build empathy for people who are forced to move from their home and settle in a new place? How might we create a sense of belonging for refugees? These were the types of questions presented to 9th grade students at Western Academy of Beijing as part of an integrated unit involving a partnership between Design and Individuals & Societies (I&S). Students became more aware of the push and pull factors that lead to migration and the challenges that these pose to people having to relocate in different parts of the world. They then used their knowledge and skills to design solutions to help refugees feel a sense of belonging in their new homes.
